Ginger and Garlic
Ginger and garlic are very effective in treating cold as they have antiseptic and anti-spasmodic properties. Prepare a soup by boiling few cloves of garlic in a bowl of water. Drink this soup few times in a day to cure cold. Garlic oil combined with onion juice and a cup of water helps to treat cold. Boil some small pieces of ginger in a glass of water. Strain the mixture and add sugar or honey to it. Drink this mixture few times in a day to get relief from cold. Ginger tea is also very useful in treating the symptoms of cold and cough. Ginger can also be used in powdered form with cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper. Take this mixture with sugar or honey twice daily for effective results.
Ajwain Seeds
Inhaling the aroma of ajwain seeds helps to open blocked nose. All you need to do is crush few ajwain seeds and put it in a fine cloth. Whenever the nose feels very congested and there is extreme difficulty in breathing, inhale ajwain seeds from the cloth itself. This will help in opening the blocked nose very quickly.
Honey
Honey is very effective in cold and cough but it needs to be added with certain home products for better results. Onion juice and honey mixed in equal amounts and taken few times in a day help to treat problems related to cold. Honey can also be mixed with lemon juice or ginger juice in equal amounts. Take this mixture with warm water twice daily.
Turmeric
The spice turmeric which is always available at home is very effective. Add a pinch of turmeric to a glass of warm milk which contains black pepper. Drink this milk for 3-4 days before retiring to bed. It will provide relief from blocked nose, sneezing and other problems related to common cold. Inhaling the fumes of turmeric also treats cold.
Roots of Bitter Gourd
Since ages the roots of bitter gourd are being used as a remedy for common cold. Prepare a paste of bitter gourd roots and add either holy basil leaves juice or honey in equal amounts to it. Take this paste daily to get rid of common cold.
Tulsi Leaves
The paste of tulsi leaves when mixed with ginger and taken two times in a day helps to get rid of cold and eases breathing.
