Adolescent Suicide

Adolescence is a bitter sweet time for any youngster. Although most of them get out scratch less, there are some cases that go through major psychological difficulties. In fact, sometimes the problems become so severe that it makes them take an horrendous step like, suicide.

Suicide is one of the top five causes of death among adolescents. In fact more youngsters die of suicide than any lethal diseases like cancer, AIDS etc. Moreover, the rate is only increasing per year.

The probability of suicide differs according to gender. Boys are more likely to commit suicide as compared to there female counterparts.  The rate also differs among races. According to surveys and research Caucasians have much higher rate of suicide than non whites.

The main reason for such a drastic increase in suicide is parental pressure in terms of academic performance. Moreover,  a hasty lifestyle adds to the misery. Habits like drug abuse, alcoholism and family issues tend to break teenagers, making them take such a serious step.

The most common mental state that leads a teenager to commit suicide is—depression. Depression is usually a result of severe unhappiness, hopelessness and even fatigue. Other factors that also play a critical part in depression is the habit to be a perfectionist, inability to mingle socially, hyper activeness, anxiety due to academic pressure etc.

Suicidal behavior has a lot to do with family background, tiffs between parents, parent-child conflicts. Such situations can really instigate suicidal thoughts. Moreover, these conflicts lead kids towards criminal activities, aggression and dropping out of school.

There are several symptoms that kids display that should alert parents. These signs include-

-Loss of appetite or eating excessively
-School related problems.
-Sleeping issues
-Depression
-Talking about death

If parents or teachers feel that a kid is showing such symptoms then they should be immediately put in the hands of professional such as psychiatrists .
