Aerobics help lower cholesterol
Are you a high cholesterol patient? If you are then you might want to think of aerobics. Aerobics will most definitely help you loose those extra pounds and lower your cholesterol level as well. While dealing with cholesterol levels two important aspects that you should keep in mind are your HDL and LDL levels.
By now you are probably curious abut the terms: HDL and LDL. Well, HDL stands for the High density Lipoproteins where as, LDL stands for Low density Lipoproteins. The moment LDL and HDL levels get messed up, cholesterol starts affecting various functions of the body. So, it is imperative that the LDL as well as HDL should be well maintained.
Aerobics will help you burn off plenty of calories. Roughly, one can burn off about 1,200 to 2000 calories per week. This will obviously help the person lower the cholesterol level in turn. As a matter of fact aerobics will increase the HDL levels as well as decrease the triglycerides present in the body.
As per the statistics published by the American college of Sports Medicine or ACSM, regular aerobic exercise can increase HDL levels up to about 22% as well as decrease the triglyceride levels as much as by 37%. A person who uses aerobics for training on a daily basis, looses about 1,500 calories during the week long training session. That lowers the cholesterol level by 10 to 20 percent a week, which is pretty good and beneficial to the body.
Besides aerobics, other exercises that involve muscle stretches like sit ups, crunches and weight training also lowers the cholesterol level present in a body. Work outs involving tai chi and similar sports can also lower the level of HDL. Although, cholesterol goes down rapidly from aerobic work outs. Thus, doing aerobics is the best way to reduce cholesterol.
