If you actively date to meet your perfect someone, you must get frustrated with the entire concept of dating at one point of time or another. While dating is a complicated and sometimes frustrating experience, what is more disheartening is that knowledge that you continuously get attracted to people who are all wrong for you. Your family and friends don’t approve of them and secretly, you also know that they can never make you happy. Still, unintentionally, you keep on falling for the wrong kind of people.

There are many reasons why people get attracted to a person they know will only hurt them. Like almost all adulthood problems, the root for this can also be traced to a person’s childhood. If you were denied physical and emotional affection during your childhood, there is a high likelihood that it would have an impact on your relationships as you continue through your life. This lack of affection during childhood results in the person becoming extremely insecure, or completely bottled up. This problem intensifies if along with a lack of affection, you have also suffered abuse. People who suffer abuse at the hands of trusted adults grow up to repeat those very patterns. They might also begin to believe that they only deserve more and more abuse.

An earlier relationship that was disturbing might also be a cause of being attracted to the wrong kind of person. Blaming self for a failed relationship can often cause the person to become self destructive and invite pain. Though dealing with this kind of a situation is tricky, it’s not altogether impossible. Admitting that there is a problem that requires intervention is the first step towards solving it. It would be a good idea to see a therapist and seek professional guidance. Sharing your pain with your loved ones is also a great way to embark on the journey towards healing.

The biggest challenge however is to take a hard long look at your priorities. It is not easy changing the course of your life, but it is a start and when you do meet that someone special, everything else will fall into place.
