Avoid Sleeping on a Bad Mattress
Although we spend one third of our life sleeping on our mattress but still we don’t bother much about its quality. A bad mattress can cause back problems as it won’t take the shape and natural curvature of your spine. Stiffness of the neck is also seen due to wrong choice of the mattress. Too hard or too soft mattress cannot help spread the weight of the sleeper uniformly along the vertebra causing stiffness of not only neck but also causing head ache and arm pain.
Irritated nerves can cause numbness in the arms and fingers. Moreover, another thing which people complain about is headache. Just like sitting and standing in a wrong posture can lead to many health problems, sleeping in the wrong posture can also cause many health hazards.
You need to devote some time before buying a mattress and keep certain points in mind. You should not buy a very thick or thin mattress. Go for a medium thickness. It will be easy to handle and not tend to become hard over time. The mattress should provide proper support to your back and keep it in its natural shape. Very soft or very hard mattresses both can give you body aches.
Go for a mattress that prevents dust mites. You will be saving yourself from many respiratory diseases. A good quality mattress prevents fungi and many bacteria’s from breathing. It should include good circulation of air and help in controlling the temperature. There are different materials used to make a mattress, choose according to your requirement. You may have to give more money for a good brand but the benefits you get are worth it.
Once you have bought a mattress it needs regular care. You need to rotate your mattress once a month to prevent concentration of body weight. Your bed needs to have a strong central support so that the mattress does not break or bow. If possible keep it in the sun for a few hours every two months. This will kill all the dust mites breeding in it. Don’t bend or jump on it.
