Baby Acne – Facts You Should Know

It may seem so heart breaking to see your little child covered with acne all over their body. It may make you wonder what exactly have you been lacking in or what have you not provided your child with that their face is marred by the presence of these disastrous looking rashes.

whether your baby is not getting the adequate nutrients or you don’t clean your child enough…but, knowing some facts about baby acne would help you calming down and put your fears to rest.

Baby acne is not caused because you keep your child dirty. So don’t go about scrubbing your child all the more as in the end it would only leave your child with more acne.

Yes, acne can be triggered due to a lot of reasons such as diet, poor lifestyle etc but baby acne is wholly and solely caused only due to the maternal hormones that enter the child’s body through the placenta especially during child birth.

On entering the body these hormones work the same way as they do in teens and adults i.e. by stimulating the sebaceous glands deep within the skin to excrete more oil which then result in appearance of the bump red boils on the skin of the child.

Baby acne is mostly found around the face (cheeks, nose etc) but it could also appear around the back and neck. Baby Acne tends to get even more visible when the baby is not feeling well or feeling hot or even agitated and upset over something.

About 30% of the babies are found to develop baby acne. Hence, the condition is not quite uncommon as it is thought to be. It usually occurs after about 3 weeks of the baby being born and fades off on its own by the time the child is of about 6 months of age.

Using all the creams and lotions that you use to treat your acne are not going to work on your child at all and in fact it could harm your baby’s skin all the more. Rinsing your child’s face once a day with mild baby soap would be good. Also avoid using a harsh detergent for washing the clothes or bed covers of your baby as this could lead to more irritation of the baby’s skin.
