Back Pain and Massage

Some people can swear by massage therapy for back pain. The question that comes in the mind is- is it really effective? And the answer is, yes.

It has been seen that people suffering from back spasm due to an injury in the spine or the ones who were not able to stand or sit, have benefited by back massage. Even orthopedics have started recommending it. However, it only promotes healing and cannot cure the problem. Hence, it cannot be used as a substitute for a cure.

Almost everyone suffers from back pain once in there life time. However, from the past few years it has become more common, especially in younger generations. If you are one of them who is constantly suffering from back pain then you should try a massage which is a combination of Swedish and Balinese techniques. One is gentle and the other is vagarious.

The massage starts from the lower back by pressing pressure points along the spine and moving upwards towards the neck and shoulder area. They try to release the knots in the area which are causing problem by needing, rubbing and putting pressure with tips of the knuckles.

You can also try an ayurvedic massage which is again a combination of three massages done in three stages- first the chakras are balanced through kerela style massage. It enhances the suppleness of the body and relaxes it. Then a rejuvenating treatment is given by herbs dipped in oil. It is also called a heat revival massage. In the end, Kati vasti massage is given in which a paste of herbs is applied and then hot oil is poured on it. It helps in relaxing and cooling the back. The session is ended with a steam bath.

Remember, while opting for a massage; always go to a trained masseuse. An untrained can cause further damage.

Today the lifestyle we are leading is very sedentary. Lack of exercise and wrong posture is the main cause of back pains and by toning the back muscles 80% of the back problems can be solved.
