Back Pains and Joint Pains

Pain is body’s way of telling that something is wrong and needs attention. Pain for a strong duration can be relieved by a pain killer but if it is persistent then you need to see your doctor. Sometimes life threatening diseases have the same symptoms in initial stages and can, if neglected, be life threatening.

If you are suffering from back or joint pain you need to check with your doctor to rule out some major problems. Here are some possibilities:

Prostate cancer and stones in the kidney: Both the problems create back pain and often go undiagnosed because we are not able to associate it. Ask your doctor about it to get some test done. A simple CT scan and PSA test of the prostate will do the needful.

Osteoporosis: The problem is generally age related but bad lifestyle habits are causing osteoporosis in young people also. A small fracture in the spine can lead to back pain. Taking rest with increase in vitamin D and calcium can heal it. A bone density test can also protect you from further damage.

Infection in bones: This can cause a swelling in the joints and can be very painful also. By testing the fluid of the joints it can be diagnosed and treated with a course of anti-biotic. Some other problems are- cancer of the bones and auto immune disease. Normally all these disease affect the spine causing back pain.

It is not that every back pain is due to some serious illness. In fact most of the time it is due to muscle strain. But it is better to be careful and not take a wait and see approach because most of the diseases if diagnosed early are fully curable but if delayed can get lethal.

Remember, if you ever feel a pain in your back or joint, make sure you contact your doctor immediately.
