Beware hard brushing may permanently damage the teeth

Think twice before you brush your teeth harder. One might think that, brushing hard may clean your teeth in a better way. This is not true. Recent study has shown that, too much brushing and too hard brushing, may permanently damage the teeth.

Aggressive brushing, will not only lead to major , but the gums also get scratched off. And excess pressure, will tear away the enamel, making the teeth much weaker. Experts opine that, the main reason behind it is the presence of excessive fluoride in the water, and in some tooth pastes too. Fluoride makes the enamel weak, this happens daily while brushing. The enamel also gets worn out, due to forceful brushing.

Dentists say that, major tooth care takes place at home. The type of tooth brushes that one uses is also important. It is a myth among the people that, using a hard brush for cleaning, will effectively clean the teeth and gums. But while cleaning horizontally, the horizontal stroke behaves like a saw and gradually cuts the enamel.

The tooth pastes should be of good quality and should be capable of protection, against plaque and decay for a long time. The wearing of teeth will result in yellow teeth. Hence people should limit their brushing to twice daily, and not after every meal. Instead they can gargle and clean their mouth.

Medium or soft bristles are always good. And do not spend more than two minutes in brushing. People should brush in proper angles, for effective cleaning. Short sweeping strokes are the best to clean the chewing surfaces.
