Blister Treatment
Blister occurs due to friction between your feet and shoes. When skin rubs against shoes or clothing blisters develop causing friction burns. In a blister, the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) gets separated from the inner layer (dermis) and a clear fluid called serum gets filled in this gap and the epidermis starts re-growing from beneath.
There are various reasons for blisters. Few of them are: blisters on feet are caused due to wearing of such shoes, which does not fit properly as they are large in size or too small; blisters are caused in hands due to not wearing safety gear while doing manual labor etc.
Blisters are very painful and if they are left untreated, infection grows and can worsen the problem. So, blister treatment is recommended. Blisters usually heal on their own so give them some time but some treatments and preventive measures can be followed in order to avoid them from becoming more infectious and not allowing it further to appear.
Firstly, do not try to puncture the blister with a needle. If blister has occurred due to certain activity give it a small break until blisters heal and, if you cannot, cover the blister with some blister plaster or a loose bandage or a moleskin.
Wash hands before and after touching blisters as they are highly prone to infection. Do not remove the broken blister skin as it’ll help in protecting the new skin underneath. You can apply an antibiotic ointment so that the bandage does not touch the blister and infection is avoided. But do not use this ointment if you are allergic to it.
Some preventive measures to avoid blisters are: Firstly avoid all those things which develop friction with skin. Wear correctly fitted shoes and clean socks. Wear gloves while doing hard manual labor like gardening, biking etc.
Apply petroleum jelly or talcum powder or a bandage over the areas, which rub with skin along with shoes and gloves. Wear socks that soak moisture and sweat and try to change your socks frequently to keep your feet dry.
If the situation has fallen out of your hands and if the blisters are not healing and instead have got filled with puss or blood then it is advisable to consult a doctor.
