Brain Tumor

Brain tumor happens when there is abnormal growth of cells. The growth of cells is no longer under the body control. This abnormal growth can happen in the cerebrum, cerebellum or even in the brainstem. If the tumor is benign then the cells may not necessarily contain the cancer cells. They can be removed and once removed they will not reoccur.

It has been found that the tumors of the brain in benign stages show clear borders. They will not invade the tissues that surrounds nearby. But they can lead to symptoms that are similar to cancerous tumors on account of their size and location.

The malignant tumors can be cancerous ones. Such tumors grow rapidly and can readily invade the tissues that surrounds. Malignant tumors rarely spread to the other body parts. But there are chances of its reoccurrence even after the treatment. Sometimes even the non-cancerous malignant tumors can damage the vital functions of the brain.

Met static tumors of the brain can develop in the other body parts. They are then spread to the brain via the blood stream. Some of the common type of cancer that travels to the brain is the cancer of lungs, breast, and melanoma and colon cancer. Once these cancers spared to the brain they are termed as malignant ones. The tumors of the brain can be primary and secondary. The primary ones begin in the brain and they can be cancerous as well as non-cancerous. The secondary tumors of the brain are the metastases that get originated from the other body parts and they are usually cancerous.

Metastases can grow and develop in single part of the brain or in numerous other parts of brain. It has been seen that lymphomas of the brain is widespread among AIDS patient. Glioma is another widespread kind of brain tumor. There are several kinds of brain cancer which arise from specific kind of cell of the brain. Some of them are astrocytomas, medulloblastomas, oligodendogliomas, ependymomas and CNS lymphomas. They may also vary in terms of aggressiveness.
