Brazilian Waxes: Good or Bad?
Just the idea of someone yanking pubic hair off my pubic mound is giving me a headache! But I seem to be the only one as Brazilian waxes are now considered one of the best waxing techniques in the entire world.
How does a Brazilian wax work?
Removal of hair form the bikini area through the method of waxing is known as a bikini wax. The two best known types of a bikini wax are the Brazilian Bikini and the Playboy Bikini wax.
• The Brazilian is when the hair around the panty line is waxed off leaving behind a broad vertical strip of hair (colloquially known as a landing strip).
• The Playboy on the other hand takes it all off leaving a very narrow strip in the front on the pubic bone. The Sphinx is a wax which takes off all the hair, leaving your skin bald.
How is it carried out?
Basically the Brazilian wax entails the cutting of your pubic hair very short to facilitate an easy and efficient wax. A little baby/talcum powder is then dusted on the area to keep the wax from sticking to your skin.
Warm wax is then applied with a baby spatula or wooden stick, covering one tiny area at a time. Strips of cloth are then pressed down onto the wax and firmly jerked off to pull the hair out by its roots. Finally once the entire area is done, stubborn hair and in-grown hair is pulled out using tweezers or threading.
Pros and cons of the Brazilian wax
Like any other procedure, the Brazilian wax too has its pros and cons, and its upto the individual to decide if they want to do it. The most obvious con is the pain involved. Considering the delicate skin in the pubic area, waxing it comes at the price of great pain and discomfort. A bad waxing job can leave you with rash burns, bloody pores and ingrown hair. And in the case of people suffering from diabetes or with a weaker immune system problem, this sort of procedure should be avoided.
Where do I get it done?
Finding a clean and reputable salon is of paramount importance, as the pubic area is prone to catching infections that can lead to more severe ones. Taking a painkiller before a Brazilian wax may be of help, and using soothing lotions (such as aloe vera, calamine and those with vitamin E) will help the skin recover faster. The pros are skin as smooth and soft as a baby’s bottom, with the added feeling of cleanliness and doubling of sexual pleasure. And its much neater too!
