Breast Pain In One Breast

Breast pain, commonly referred to as mastalgia, among women is the most common problem associated with breast. Breast pain is very common among women and affects about 70 percent of women at some time in their lives. Most women have the common belief that experiencing breast pain means that they are suffering from breast cancer. But this belief is not correct!

Breast pain alone is not a common symptom of breast cancer. You may get relief to know that less than one in ten women suffering from breast cancer develop breast pain as their major symptom. But if you are still anxious to know the cause behind your breast pain, you must consult your doctor and get thorough check up to make sure that you don’t suffer from breast cancer.

Breast pain can give a hard time to many women and sometime, it may be so intense and severe that it may become difficult to continue the daily chores normally. Women may experience pain in either one breast or both breasts.

Pain in breast is basically of two types. These are cyclical breast pain and non-cyclical breast pain. In case of cyclical breast pain you may experience pain in both breasts. This type of pain is generally experienced by women prior to their menstruation. This type of pain can be dull, intense or throbbing. It disappears naturally after the beginning of your period.

The second type of pain i.e. the non-cyclical breast pain is not related to your periods and may occur at any time. This type of breast pain may come and go by it or may remain constant. Pain is experienced in only one of your breasts and is usually very sharp, strong and burning.

Non-cyclical breast pain generally affects women who are between 30-50 years of age. Pain in one breast is commonly caused by a cyst or a fibroadenoma. Sometimes an infection can also lead to pain in one breast. If you feel constant pain in one of your breasts you must certainly consult your doctor. In case, pain occurs due to an infection, your doctor may prescribe some antibiotics for it.

If you are experiencing breast pain in one breast, you should not panic. Usually, it does not point out to be a case of breast cancer. But you should discuss your problem with your doctor.
