Breast reduction surgery: is required?
The advancements in the field of breast reduction surgery have made breast enhancement and reduction surgeries, a common procedure that is used by many women for cosmetic purposes.
In addition to the basic medical purpose of enlarging the breast for cosmetic purposes, breast reduction surgery involves reducing the volume of the breasts by removing excess fat, skin and tissue. In cases where the patient has undergone breast implants for augmented breasts, the surgery can also include removal of the implants. Many patients also opt for this surgery after the age of 40 to lift their drooping breasts that have occurred due to menopause and poor breast support.
This procedure is also commonly performed on women who suffer from large-sized, heavy and pendulous breasts. The condition may cause severe pain of the head, neck, spine and shoulders due to the excessive weight of the breasts. Such patients may also suffer from blood circulation and breathing troubles due to the increased breast weight. In such conditions, the breast reduction surgery costs may be covered by health insurance.
This surgery is not recommended for women who are planning to breastfeed. However, many women like to undergo this procedure for cosmetic reasons too. With each passing year, the number of people desiring to undergo this surgery is increasing. It is a great relief for women who may either be suffering from the physical discomfort that this condition of extra-large breasts is causing them, or the psychological stress due to awkward physical appearance in this condition.
Although most of the patients of this surgery are females, but there are male patients too who may be in need of this surgery. This condition, known as gynecomastia, can cause serious psychological stress and discomfort to males, and may lead to a loss of self-confidence. The breast reduction surgery can improve their physical condition drastically, and thus helping to raise their self-confidence too.
This surgery is usually performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. The patient needs to visit the surgeon before the surgery, and both may mutually decide upon the new positioning of the areolas and nipples that will enhance the appearance maximum.
