Bring A Healthy Twist In The Taste With Sprouts!

We all know about the goodness of the sprouts. Sprouts are considered the most versatile good food. They are rich in nutrients and you can eat them in any from, raw, with a tangy twist, slightly roasted and can enjoy them while they keep the body rejuvenated. The best thing about sprouts is that people of all age groups can consume it and in any form.

While among the toddlers it can be introduced sprouted ragi or wheat porridge. All the beans and pulses can be sprouted. The best way is to soak them overnight approximately for 12 hrs. Then drain the excess water and finally store the soaked beans or pulse in a vessel. They could be snacked after 24-36 hours later.

For twist add salt, a dash of lime juice, pepper powder or a generous topping of freshly grated coconut. Another option is to lightly boil the sprouts. Season with tempering of mustard seeds, asafetida, curry leaves, red chili. In the same manner the horse gram or the Bengal gram spouts could be prepared. Chopped onions and diced cucumber with tomato will add to the taste. For additional twist grated radish, beet root, carrot, lettuce, celery, and parsley will enhance the taste and it will be nutritious snack to munch on.

Soya sprouts are good for health but they have to be cooked a little before consumption. Similarly, groundnut sprouts kidney beans sprouts can be added in the regular dishes as toppings and can be cooked with them.

They will not only enhance the flavor of the dish but will increase the nutrient content of the food. The added twist will evade boredom from the same regular monotonous taste of the food that we eat. Thus, expert’s opine that every one should make sprouts a part of daily intake. Among children also this healthy habit should be inculcated.

They are best if eaten in breakfast or lunch. They have even the capacity to bring down the bad cholesterol level. One can even test the lipid profile by consuming 100 Gms of sprouts everyday for three months and then comparing it with the previous profile. One can clearly find that the bad cholesterol level will go down.
