While researchers continue to wage war against cancer and are working really hard to find an antidote, they are also focusing on what could be the most promising ammo to date for this disease– diet.
The simplest and the least-expensive way to reduce your risk for cancer is by eating a healthy diet. You may want to start with some of the following foods, all of which show assurance in fighting cancer:
Broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower: These veggies are packed with dietary benefits. They contain dietary fiber, calcium, iron and vitamins A and C which may help fight cancer. You can snack on broccoli and you will lower your cholesterol as well as your risk of heart disease. Broccoli also happens to contain a component called indole-3-carbinol that can combat breast cancer. Garlic: Researchers believe that there are many factors in garlic’s ability to fight cancer. One factor is the many compounds found in garlic, including allyl sulfur. Allyl sulfur can slow down the damage of the progress of cancerous cell growth.
Grapefruits: Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits are known to be a rich source of vitamin C but new evidence suggests they also contain compounds that fight cancer. Drinking grapefruit juice may help reduce the risk of cancer in smokers.
Mushrooms: Mushrooms are rich in antioxidants, nutrients, and vitamins that may help fight cancer. Mushrooms contain high amounts of beta-glucans, compounds that help keep immune cells in a state of vigilance and thereby guard against disease like cancer. Lab experiments had found mushrooms cells to contain mechanisms that suppress breast and prostate cancer cells.
Avocados: They act as powerful antioxidant that attacks free radicals in the body by blocking intestinal assimilation of certain fats. They also supply a large amount of potassium and are a strong source of beta-carotene. Scientists also believe that avocados may also be useful in treating viral hepatitis (a cause of liver cancer), as well as other sources of liver damage.
