Causes of Breast Cancer

Though science has developed and made progress tremendously in all these years but still the exact reason of cancer remains unknown. Experts have managed to find out the numerous risk factors associated with the diseases.

While certain factors like genetics and age are uncontrollable while the other factors like lifestyle, food habits can be controlled and changed to a great extent. But in case of breast cancer it’s the females who are mostly affected. Here are discussed some of the factors that causes breast cancer:-

Genetic factors- with cases of cancer running in the family, the chances of breast cancer increases. The risk is high if the person is a close relative. Thus genes are greatly responsible breast cancer. It has been found that the BRCA1 gene if inherited then can cause breast cancer. This is an abnormal gene. With this abnormal gene the females are subjected to other cancer of ovary. Thus females with BRCA1 gene can develop cancer at early age. Similarly BRCA2 can cause breast cancer in females. One can test for this gene but the results may or may not show the presence of cancer cells also the process is very expensive.

Hormonal cause- hormones play vital role in cancer development. Females with early cycles and late menopause develop it more. While with the converse case the chances of breast cancer decreases. Also bearing kids before 30 yrs of age is good but the chances of cancer increases with no kids. HRT done after the menopause can be dangerous and the results can be negative.

Diet- it has been observed that the population of a particular region or country that intakes more amount of fat has more chances of developing breast cancer.

Benign breast disease- formation of cysts and fibroids are very common in breasts. They can lead to discomfort, but this condition cannot cause breast cancer. But if some types of benign breast lump if changes then they can later develop into breast cancer.

Alcohol- females who drink are more vulnerable to breast cancer. The relationship is still unknown, with an increase in estrogen level in blood.
