Causes of Impetigo and Its Treatment
The main reason of impetigo is staph and strep bacteria. This condition is extremely contagious it gets readily spread due to direct contact from an infected person. Poor unhygienic conditions, over crowded places and extreme heat are the main reason. Another way by which the bacterium enters the skin is by cit or sore. Epidemic impetigo may easily spread among the kids. In this condition vesicle may develop over the reddened skin. These vesicles are found especially in face and legs; with cluster formed they spread to other places. The cluster eats the skin forming pits. With the amalgamation of these pits ecthyma condition gets developed. Negligence may lead to kidney condition called as glomerulonephritis.
Treatment for impetigo-
This condition is generally treated with antibiotics, orally or with injections. Apart from this topical solutions and creams are also prescribed depending on the severity of condition. The main cream bactroban is prescribed. Before the application the affected place is washed with soap, antiseptic solution like peridex and water. After drying the place the application is applied. Fusidic acid for application or erythromycin for oral antibiotics is generally prescribed. Many practitioners prescribe bacterial ointment, but while applying it see that the scabs are dissolved properly as most of the bacteria thrive underneath the skin. In general the course of oral medication is for 7-10 days.
Prevention-
The best way to evade chances of developing impetigo is by taking shower twice daily and keeping the skin clean. In case of any cut or bruises or sores see that the area is kept clean and attended immediately with suitable cream or ointment for speedy recovery. Avoid touching the effected area as there are chances that you may spread it to other body parts as it is highly contagious.
Sheets, pillow covers should be kept separate of the patient and it should be washed daily in hot water. The person’s personal things like towel, soap should also be kept segregated. The kids should be kept segregated from the effected person as their skin being extremely sensitive they might end up catching the infection too. And after the application of creams and ointments over the blister wash the hands thoroughly.
