Child Sexual Abuse

Child Sexual abuse can be termed as a kind of child exploitation where the kid is molested sexually by an adult. Sexual mistreatment is not limited to sex only, even the attempt to expose ones genitals in front of the child and forcing him/her to indulge in sex related activities is considered to be an offensive act of child molestation.

Sexual abuse leaves the victim physically and emotionally wounded. It affects their relationships with others, as they grow up. A child who is sexually abused can in many cases have a much disrupted sexual behavior. He/she may be prone to indulging in promiscuity, as he/she may have a very low sense of self worth and self-respect. Moreover, on the other hand some of them may also become sexually inactive and might not want to have sex at all. Hence, they become really bad in sexual relationships.

Facts say that out of every three girls one is a victim of child abuse and out of every four boys one suffers molestation. Moreover, it is believed that in most of the cases of abuse, the attacker is someone the child knows. He could be the parent, a relative, family friend, care taker etc.

There are several signs which may suggest that a child is being abused. For instance, if the child has an innate disliking for a person and does not like being with them then that might suggest that there is something wrong. Also, if you find your child suffering from mouth infections, irritation in the genital areas etc, it could be related to this. Most obvious sign is if a child gives certain hints or makes comments about a certain sexual encounter he/she had.

If you feel your child has been sexually abused then it’s very important that you talk to him/her about it. Believe in them completely because it’s very atypical for children to lie about such things. Moreover, don’t get too temperamental in front of the child but be sympathetic. You also need to assure the child that the tough part is over and that you will be there for him/her and assure that it will never happen again.

Praise the child’s guts for telling you about the whole situation and treat them with a lot of love and affection.

The fairest thing you can do for a child is to give them security and to fight for them. Do not let the culprit run free. Report the abuse to the police or other agencies fighting for child rights. Go into battle for justice and make sure that the attacker is behind bars.
