Common nail problems and treatments
Some of the common nail related problems include trauma, aging, infections, skin diseases and brittle nails along with ones inability to grow long nails and nails turning weak, soft and easily breakable.The above problems may be caused on account of several factors such as trauma, repeated wetting or exposure to detergents or harsh solvents such as nail enamel removers or from clipping ones nails too short.
Toe nails may also suffer damage from wearing ill- fitted shoes. Those engaged in some work that is rough on the hands may also develop nail related problems, especially brittle nails. Malnutrition can equally lead to such disorders.
Fungal infections in the finger and toe nail cause inflammation around the nail and lifting of the nail plate. Herpes also cause painful swelling and blisters around the nails. Personal habits such as nail biting can also cause long term damage to the nails.
Depending on the condition one may take the necessary steps to prevent or cure it. Those engaged in activities that are rough on the hands should use proper gloves to ensure that their nails are not subjected to stresses. Those whose hands tend to remain exposed to water for prolonged time should wear light cotton gloves beneath rubber gloves so that the sweat is easily absorbed.
One may keep brittleness of nails at bay by maintaining them on a regular basis by means of a proper manicure. This involves clipping and trimming them from time to time thereby maintaining a favorable length of the nails making them less prone to chipping or splitting. Since dryness tends to aggravate the condition, it is favorable to keep them moist and hydrated by applying a lotion to the nails.
Poor and unbalanced diet may cause nail related disorders, so it is essential to include such food in ones diet which promotes health of nails. This includes cauliflowers, lentils and those rich in Vitamin A, potassium and phosphorus content.
It is ideal to massage ones fingertips a few times over the day to enable active and enhanced blood circulation around the nails allowing them to absorb vital nutrients considerably.
