Coping with Autism
Autism is a developmental disability which affects a person’s ability to communicate, engage in social interactions and his ability to respond to his surrounding environment. It begins in early childhood and extends throughout adulthood, affecting both verbal and non-verbal communication. It is a sort of birth defect and usually becomes apparent by the age of three.
Parents, whose children suffer from autism, are faced with new and difficult challenges every day. To begin with, it takes great toll on their mind to accept the fact that their child is autistic and that often leaves them feeling devastated. The emotions range widely from shock, anger and regret, to deep worry and sadness. As parents your child suffering from autism needs you to understand what he is unable to express or communicate. It is therefore necessary that you carefully observe the behavior of the child and grasp what he likes doing best. That will allow you to discover possible areas of improvement that can be worked up on and aid his treatment.
It is good for you to reach out to other people placed in similar situations, discussing with them your stress, as well as any progress that you may have achieved in treating or helping your child.
