You take care of your face and its beauty so much and you spend so much money on beauty products but do you know that some beauty products could be very harmful for you! Yes! Beauty products that contain mercury can be dangerous for your beauty. In some countries beauty products containing mercury has been banned.
Mercury compounds very easily get absorbed when you apply it on your skin and thus accumulate in your body. It damages your central nervous system which is essential for all your organs to function properly. Mercury slows down myelin formation which also causes nervous disorders. Mercury also harms your endocrine system and may also cause damage to your kidneys.
Mercury is bad for your gums and teeth too. Since mercury is easily absorbed through your skin it creates toxins in your body and causes skin irritation and skin allergies.
Women who apply mercury-based eye products on their eyes may not be affected immediately but in the long run such eye products are going to harm you a lot because it accumulates in your body. And when you get pregnant, it causes birth defects and impairs brain development of your child. Women who remain highly exposed to mercury based cosmetics during or before pregnancy are likely to cause serious problems to their fetus. Their children may be born as mentally retarded.
Not only newborn children but poisoning of mercury is also one of the causes of autistic behaviors in young people. Mercury not only gets collected in your body but it also gets accumulated in the environment. Therefore you should avoid those areas where there may be mercury in the environment. Mercury fumes are also accumulated in tube of some cosmetic products. If anyone inhales mercuric fumes it will cause grave problems.
Before buying any cosmetic products, read the labels carefully to know whether they contain mercury or not. You can also do mercury test yourself. Firstly apply it on your palm; secondly rub your palm with some golden material. If the color changes to grey you can conclude that your cosmetic product contains mercury. If mercury level would be high, color would be darker.
If you find any banned mercury cosmetic product in your country, you may report it to the concerned authority.
