Describe the types of screening techniques done in breast cancer detection?

Here are described some of the screening techniques.

High risk screening-

The woman is vulnerable to higher risks that have a strong family background of ovarian cancer or breast cancer. The woman who had previous history of breast cancer and who had high risk biopsies are also prone to it. For these women special line of treatment, with special and individualized counseling has to be done. It is better that such woman are recommend for centers that specializes for females in such cases.

Breast ultra sound-

The basic idea of getting females yearly ultrasound done is getting impetus. But this practice cannot be standardized for all, as it doesn’t cover all the aspect and gives assurance. One of the greatest disadvantage mammographic screenings is that a mammogram can even miss a cancer. This may happen when the breast tissue is extremely dense. Such dense tissue is common among younger woman. The best thing is, numerous test models have been developed for ultrasound screening.

Breast MRI-

The MRI is considered one of the best ways in detecting breast cancer at an early stage. When an MRI gives a negative reading there is a chance of about 98% of no cancer in the breasts. One of the major problems with MRI is that it is costly and the areas of concerns are high.

Nipple cytology-

One of the major challenges that the physician are coming across with is to identify the woman with increase risk of cancer.  Some times the woman who doesn’t have a family history or doesn’t show previous biopsy risk is also subjected to cancer.  It would be better that the screening device splits up woman who have higher chances of cancer from the woman who has normal risk of cancer.

New device has been developed for this. In this a miniature suction machine is placed on the nipple and the fluid is extracted. The discovery and presence of atypical cells increases chances of development of breast cancer, in the future and the follow up is more aggressive.

Almost in 60% of the cases, there is no such fluid. The in-abundance of no such fluid shows that the risks are relatively low. If the cells are found abnormal then the patent is suggested to seek a professional.
