Diabetes And Skin Problems
Diabetes is a condition that can lead to numerous other conditions. It is a chronic condition that can affect all the fundamental organs of the body. Hence it is better to keep the sugar in control. One can develop several problems of the skin due to diabetic condition. Some of the major skin problems due to diabetes are:-
Scleroderma diabeticorum- this kind of problem arises with people suffering from type II diabetes. It is a rare kind of skin ailment. The thickness of the skin is affected. And the skin thickens on the neck back till the upper back. If the blood sugar is kept under control then one can evade this problem. For external application one can make use of prescribed lotions and creams this will help to soften the skin to a large extent.
Vitiligo- people suffering form type I diabetes have this condition. In this condition the skin color gets affected. The cells that control the skin color are destroyed and hence the skin gets discolored, especially in the chest, face, abdomen, eyes and mouth. To treat this condition doctor prescribe the patients with steroids and micro pigmentation session.
Acanthosis nigricans- it happens in the people who are obese and when the skin gets thickened and darkened especially near the folds. The skin might appear to be tanned in certain areas. The texture is velvety and the skin is slightly raised. The skin becomes noticeable due to insulin resistance.
Necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum- with the change in the collagen and fat content under the skin this problem may arise. The skin gets reddened and thin. They develops into lesions, they are extremely painful and itchy. Under extreme condition they break open too.
Diabetic dermopathy- the blood vessels for the skin changes. Shin spots get developed. They are shiny circular lesions and are itchy.
Digital sclerosis- in this the skin of the fingers, toes and hands become thick. The skin may become tight too. It can be treated by bringing the sugar under control. One can apply lotions and creams to soften the skin.
Eruptive xanthomatosis- with insulin resistance it becomes difficult to get rid of fat from the blood. The skin appears like wax pea and ahs yellow bumps. They are around the areas surrounding the face, arms, legs and buttocks. One can control it by lessening amount of fat in blood.
Bullosis diabeticorum- with diabetes some people develop blisters near their hands, legs, fingers, toes etc. they are actually harmless and gets healed on their own.
Disseminated Granulomas annulare- the skin gets red or red-brown. Arc or ring shapes develops in the affected areas of chest, abdomen, ears and fingers. Usually topical steroid like hydrocortisone is prescribed or this condition.
