Diabetes, kinds and warning signs
Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone needed to convert food into energy. There are two types of diabetes.-
Type 1: It is also called insulin dependent diabetes. The insulin producing cells are destroyed; pancreas can no longer make insulin. It generally attacks children and young adults. The onset of disease happens quickly as the insulin stops being produced and the blood sugar rises.
Type 2: It is also known as non insulin diabetes. Some symptoms seen are– urge to pass urine frequently, you feel very thirsty, there is an increase in hunger but the loss of weight is rapid, the body feels tired all the time. High blood sugar also resists the flourishing of white blood cells, which leads to poor wound healing. It generally occurs in individuals over 30years of age.
Diagnose: The fasting blood sugar test is the preferred way to diagnose diabetes. A sample of blood is drawn and sent to the laboratory for the analysis after the person has fasted over night.
Complications: Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in people. When blood sugar is constantly high it leads to kidney failure, cardio vascular problems and If not controlled it can even lead to amputation of the limps. You may have scanty or profuse sweating. In addition, low blood sugar increases sexual problems, weakness, dizziness, and fainting and if ignored it starts affecting the organs.
Precaution: Though diabetes is not completely curable, it is controllable to a great extent. Mostly ‘the control’ depends on the patients. By diet control, exercises and medicine it can be managed. You need regular blood tests to keep a check on your blood sugar.
Remember, this diesease is a silent killer.Do not take it lightly.Follow proper procedure and get your sugar level tested regularly.
