Diet For Treating Insomnia
There are numerous factors that lead to insomnia. The major one is due to improper diet and nutrition. This is one of the chief reasons of insomnia and other sleep disorders among the people. There are certain kinds of food that promote good sleep while there are other which refrain the body from getting good quality of sleep.
Food promoting good sleep-
Green leafy vegetables that are abundant in chlorophyll can be used in form of salads or can be partially boiled or steamed. Certain fruits have the capacity to calm the mind like the lemon and the mulberries. Carbohydrates are important constituent of diet. They boost serotonin which helps the body and mind to sleep in batter way. Vitamin B6 and oyster shell is also recommended to boost sleep.
All kinds of mushrooms, whole grains like oats, whole wheat and brown rice soothe the nervous system. The seeds of chia have sedative effect. Similarly the jujube seeds calms down the nervous system.
When a glass of warm milk is mixed with a tsp of honey and consumed before going to sleep, improves the sleeping patterns. Lettuce should be made an essential part of the evening meals especially if you have sleep related disorders. Lettuce does wonder in creating healthy sleep pattern. The juice of lettuce can be mixed with a dash of lemon; it is a wonderful sleep inducing drink.
The dinner should also have good amount of legumes, yeast, fish, peanuts and poultry. They are abundant in Niacin that is found in Vitamin B3 rich foods. Turkey, bananas, figs, milk, tunas, whole grain crackers, nuts, dates, yogurt have high content of tryptophan. They are known to promote sleep. Catnip tea and chamomile tea is also suggested to be taken to improve sleep.
Food that leads to insomnia-
Avoid spicy foods and cola beverages before sleep. Tea, chocolate and other caffeinated drinks should also be avoided. Alcohol and other stimulating drugs, preservatives and additives also harm the sleep pattern. In the similar manner, tinned and canned foods, non-organic food that have high amount of pesticides, refined carbohydrates and food that have high sugar content should be avoided.
Apart from this food that causes, heart burn, gas, indigestion should not be taken. See that you do not binge on heavy meal before sleep. Meat has high protein content which keeps us awake. Food that has monosodium glutamate should not be taken. They can be found in Chinese foods.
