Diet To Prevent Thyroid

Thyroid is a gland that is located in the neck. It resembles like a butterfly and is located below the voice box. Its role in the body is vital. An adult thyroid gland can weigh 15-25 Gms. It is responsible for the two significant hormones the T3 and the T4. They are responsible for the physical and mental growth.

The much needed component of the body is the iodine. It synthesizes the thyroid hormones. T4 has 4 atoms of iodine similarly T3 has 3 atoms of iodine. In case the body is defiant with iodine then it is unable to synthesize the hormones properly. Goiter is a condition when the thyroid glands get enlarged. This mainly happens with the deficiency of iodine.

The enlargement of this thyroid gland is because of the over stimulus of the thyroid gland, this is because of TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). Here the body fights to produce the hormones in absence of iodine. In order to avoid this condition from happening one should take care and concentrate with their diet as well. One should also see that they are either over-weight or under-weight and accordingly try to rectify their condition.

Diet
The diet for a thyroid patient should be high in fiber content, low in calorie and low-gylcemic, see that proper timings is followed while taking diet. Iodine should be important constituent of their food. One can find it in fish, sea food, shell fish, sea weed and also can get in iodized salt.

Some of the low-gylcemic food that should be avoided is carrots, beet root, bananas, potatoes, peas, sugar, oranges, baked food, white bread etc. if still one wants to consume these then they should take with some other supportive food stuff and should not be consumed alone.

Lean meats, poultry, legumes, beef are important. These proteins are also responsible in preventing hair loss. Kidney beans, apples, broccoli, leafy vegetables that are rich in fiber have to be consumed. Zinc is important as it prevents the thinning of T3 levels. The importance of selenium cannot be overlooked.

Herbs and other supplements should be consumed. With proper diet one can easily control the weight fluctuations.
