Discolored Baby Teeth

Kids are usually fussy about brushing and oral health care. You might have experienced difficulty in getting your little one brush his/her teeth most of the time. Maintenance of baby teeth is difficult but mandatory. Off-white or ivory colored teeth are considered healthy and normal. Some of the most common problems seen in kids are bleeding in gums, tooth decay and discoloration of teeth.

Discoloration of teeth in kids occurs due to numerous reasons. One of the major reasons is lack of proper cleaning, flossing and brushing. With inadequate cleaning the bacteria grows and develops and results in formation of plaque. The teeth gradually become stained with the food partial stuck and form a coating over the teeth. You can even make use of baking soda and mix this well with kids tooth paste. This mixture can be used to scrub well the affected areas and gradually the plaque will get removed.

Liquid multivitamin syrups contain iron and because of iron they are usually dark colored, they stain the toddler’s teeth easily. This matter may not be too serious to be bothered, but the dark stains can be cleared by professional dentist help.

Other causes of teeth discoloration in kids:-
Toothpaste that contains excessive fluorides can lead to white spots in teeth. Such spots are signal of detrimental teeth. It has been observed that expectant mother‘s who take tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline or oxytetracycline can affect the baby’s teeth with discoloration. Also new born babies with jaundice can develop yellow spots in their teeth. Baby with chronic health condition is also seen to be suffered from discolored teeth.

Tips to avoid discolored teeth in kids:-
With the appearance of first tooth, make it a habit to brush your kid’s regularly. See that the brush and paste are exclusively for babies. The bristles should be soft and rounded. After brushing avoid feeding them with sugary drinks. Stay away from concentrated fruit juices. See that the baby eats a healthy diet rich with calcium, vitamins and other nutrients.

With little care and attention your baby will have healthy teeth.
