Diverticulitis Diet

There are pockets inside the intestinal walls which can sometimes cause inflammation. Diet that has low-residue is recommended for this kind of condition. What exactly is a low-residue diet? Usually when 10 Gms of fiber is taken per day then this kind of diet is known as low-residue diet.

Tips to control Diverticulitis by following a low-residue diet:-

Grains are extremely good. Enrich the body with bagels, white bread or muffins. Cereals like crispies, muesli, cornflakes, and cheerios are suggested.  Cookies of arrowroot, healthy wheat crackers and biscuits can be consumed. Stay away from whole grain food. Noodles, pasta and rice can be taken.

One can consume fruit juices, but see that you have removed the pulp before consuming them. Avoid in take of dry fruits, nuts and berries. Grapes, water melon, oranges, peaches, apricots etc can be taken.

Potatoes that have been peeled can be consumed. Broth and juices of fresh vegetables are good. Stay away from vegetables that increase gaseousness like, Brussels, beans, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli etc. Celery, carrots, squash, zucchini, beet, bell pepper, mushroom can be taken.

When meat is consumed see that it is well cooked and is soft. One can even take eggs and fish. Flaxseed and other kinds of seeds, nuts etc should be totally avoided. Dairy can be taken as per the advice of your doctor.

See that as you recover slowly and steadily your pattern of diet should also change. With improvement in your health see that you switch to diet that has high fiber content. Also water intake is very essential in any kind of ailment and condition related with the stomach to intestine. Water helps in easy digestion and assimilation.
