Do Men Really Struggle With Commitment?
Do you ever wonder why commitment is such a huge issue with men? Why there are so many sitcoms based on this fear of commitment?
While the sitcoms might be selling this fear of commitment for a few laughs, for many this fear is an actual reality which they have to live with. This tendency seems to surface again and again and sometimes even gets blown out of proportion. However, it seems that there are all sorts of possible explanations for this fear. The most common one being, that men love to chase. It’s ultimately the chase that they enjoy and not the woman they are pursuing. Some also say that men like to identify more with their friends and their work. The explanations are many and some are way too bizarre.
Men however, like women, are complex creatures.
The environment today pressures people to behave in a certain manner. Society has assigned specific roles to people and expects them to behave in a manner fitting their predefined role. Somewhere along the line, men learnt to objectify women. Blame it on the media or on the proliferation of the internet, the rising porn industry or the general misrepresentation of women.
Over a period of time, many men have developed the tendency to chase women for sexual fulfillment rather than making any emotional ties with them. Relationships have lost their sheen. Only one thing remains – passion. Also, this lust for carnal pleasures has somewhere become so strong that having only one woman becomes intimidating for many men, who would rather carry on with physical relationships with more than one woman.
Women too sometimes fail to see the signals. They often mistake sexual intimacy for emotional intimacy and look for a relationship with a person who has absolutely no interest in having one.
This does not stand true for all men though. However, a lot of men somehow or the other are attuned to treating woman as object for gratification and therefore, commitment may never be in their scheme of things.
