A child’s exposure to talking begins with blabbering, stuttering and cluttering. Your child may appear cute when pronouncing the words in such manner, but when this gets carried in their later lives then takes the shape of a disorder. Problems related with speech are common among kids.
How to recognize the disorder and which is the best possible way to treat it?
Stuttering- this disorder affects the fluency of speech. It is also known as stammering. In this a person who stutters repeats the initial part of the word. In other words we can say that the first syllable is hold on for a longer period of time. It is seen in most of the people who stutter, they have problem in getting the sounds altogether. It is a complex speech disorder, often it has been seen that person suffering from it has low self confidence and lower self esteem on account of their speech inefficiency.
Cluttering- this is another problem related to speech. Due to cluttering the person’s speech becomes difficult to understand. In this the flow of speech gets affected. People who clutter speak in bursts they may even pause at unexpected intervals and places. This cluttered speech mostly sounds jerky. Usually the speaker is unaware about his/her problem. The articulation disorders can also encompass.
Lisping and Apraxia- lisping is another kind of speech disorder in which the letter “s” and “z” gets specifically substituted. Apraxia is basically an oral-motor speech problem. It is related with motor coordination. A person who suffers from this has issues in moving the muscles and other structures that are needed to form speech sounds into words.
While speaking, our body makes use of numerous muscles, from different parts of the body. Proper coordination is mandatory for fluent speech. Some of the parts that we make use of for speech are larynx. It contains the vocal cords. Apart from this teethe, tongue, mouth and lips and the respiratory system are also put to use.
For normal speech one requires precise timings and proper nerve and muscle control, for hassle free speech.
