Dry skin or xerosis
One of the common problems that most of us suffer from is dry skin. This condition is also known as Xerosis. This kind of problem can be either mild or severe. This happens mainly due to extreme winter and cold dry air.
The skin can get dried in any part. People with oily skin during this period of climate are more fortunate and their T zones are comparatively safe from the attack of cold dry winds. The worst effected areas are the arms and the legs. One can even feel dryness in armpits, groin region and face. Due to these, itching results and sleep is disturbing. Under extremities it might result even in eczema. It is also known as nummular eczema.
In This kind of skin condition patches develop in circular fashion. They are pink or red. The texture is flaky, dry and the skin becomes extremely rough. It affects the shoulder blades, the arms and legs.
The nature of dry skin is to produce extremely low levels of sebum. Such skin is extremely sensitive. The dehydrated look of the skin is on account of the fact that it is not capable in retaining the moisture for longer duration of time. The skin feels tight. Unless and until some smoothening product like pomade, moisturizer or petroleum jelly is not applied the skin remains to be uncomfortable. It is quite natural for the skin to chap and crack.
The dryness of the skin is further intensified with home air-conditioning and temperature drop in the outer atmosphere. The skin further is drawn towards the bones. It gives the cheek and the eye area a dull appearance. One can easily visualize the finer lines or the expression lines near these delicate areas.
The simplest and the only way is to keep the skin hydrated and nourished with a good quality cream and under extreme conditions medical intervention is suggested.
