Ear Injuries
In case you have severe earache, loss of balance, headache, are not able to hear from one ear or discharge blood or watery fluid from your ear, then maybe you are suffering from an ear injury. This can be caused by poking something in the ear or loud explosion. Sometimes these injuries can cause unconsciousness also.
Don’t try to restore hearing by hitting on the side of the head, it can cause more damage, instead sit with your head tilted on the injured side so that the blood or the fluid does not get blocked inside. You can even bandage the ear for protection with clean gauze but don’t plug your ear as this can cause pressure and increase the problem.
In case of a foreign body in the ear which is more common in children as they are more prone to such accidents. Don’t panic, as this won’t cause any serious damage .You may feel a deafness on the affected side or feeling of something in the ear. But don’t try to take it out yourself as this will push the object further in the ear and may cause damage to the eardrum. Contact the doctor immediately.
In case of insect in the ear, hold the head still with ear angled towards the ground. It may take the insect crawl out. Don’t try to put your finger as it may push the insect further or if he has a sting it may be provoked for an attack. Normally the insect will come out on its own in two to three minutes. But in case it does not happen you can gently flood the air with taped water. The buzzing sound in the ear can sometimes frighten the child. Try to calm the baby till the medical help arrives.
Remember, ear injuries are a very serious matter. They can levy permanent damage, if not tended by professional help.
