Easy ways to avoid diabetes

Diabetes is a scary disease simply because it has no cure. The disease affects nearly every part of the body resulting in irreparable damage that just does not go away. But only a few people know that it is completely easy to avoid getting diabetes even if both your parents are diabetic. You require care and a few simple lifestyle changes that will protect you and your body from the dangers of diabetes. Here is what you can do.

Increase your exercise
Most people will experience a disease known as metabolic syndrome 5-10 years before they actually get diabetes. The symptoms of the disease are high blood pressure, increased weight around the abdomen and increased hunger. The best way to avoid all this is by upping your exercise regime. Lose weight and control what you eat right in your 30s itself to make sure that you do not slip unobtrusively into diabetes. Even a 30 minute daily workout is great for making sure that you are fit as a fiddle

Reduce your processed sugar intake
Switch to more natural sugars, sugar substitutes or even use a spice mix to make sure that you have the right amount of sugar and salt in your diet. Use stevia powder to get the desired sweetness or switch over to cinnamon powder that works just as well in reducing your blood sugar levels. Cinnamon also works by activating enzymes that stimulate insulin receptors, lower cholesterol and even triglyceride levels. The spice is also inherently sweet and can be used to flavor tea and coffee too.

Change your breakfast foods
Make sure that you have fiber rich foods early in the morning that will increase the metabolism of your body while slowing down digestion. Make sure that the cereal you eat is rich in unrefined cereals like millet, amaranth, quinoa, and oats for better blood sugar levels. And make sure that there are no hidden sugars in your breakfast cereals like brown sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, high fructose corn syrup, invert sugar, maltose, malt syrup, molasses, sugar, and sucrose.
