Eating habits among the breast cancer patients
A well balanced diet is the ultimate solution for a wellness plan. The American cancer society, has issued guidelines for nutrition and physical activities, among the cancer survivors. One has to take special considerations in diet, especially after a breast cancer treatment.
A breast cancer survivor should consume food with low fat content. By doing so they can evade the chances of other cardiovascular complication and other cancer. But the fact remains, science still has not been able to accomplish the relationship between diet and development of Breast cancer. The studies that have been conducted thinly support that food with low fat content can lower the reoccurrence on any other ailments and ensures better survival.
The question is how to reduce fat content in diet?
The fatty foods can be given up for fruits, vegetables, beans, sprouts and cereals. Avoid Trans-fats. Consume smaller portions of food with fat. Baked and boiled foods are best rather and fried stuffs. The dairy products should have no fat content. Meats should be lean and should be consumed in small servings. Fish, poultry are best, compared to pork and beef.
Vitamins like A, D, E and K are fat soluble. Weight loss becomes synonymous with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other hormone therapy. Cancer survivors should discuss with their diet and problems with their dietitian and should make their diet plan tailor made. Most of the time temporary alteration has to be made in the diet plan.
Importance of fruits, vegetables and grains in diet
In most of the ailments emphasis, is given that the food should be chosen from the plant source. On an average at least five servings of fruits and vegetables has to be taken. Other forms of food like, bread, grains, cereals, rice, pasta and beans should be cooked and consumed with the combination of vegetables. It has been found that fruits and vegetables contain phyto chemicals; these are chemicals help in improving the condition of cancer patients and helps in further prevention from other ailments.
Evidences suggest that lung cancer and collateral cancer can be well protected with it. However, the evidences, to support breast cancer are rather slim. Legumes, cereals with high fiber content, whole grains are found to be excellent source of fiber. It helps in improvement of the bowel movement and reduces the peril or heart diseases.
How can one incorporate plant based food in diet?
Every meal should contain fruits and vegetables. When hungry snack on salads, raw vegetables, tinned fruits etc, during breakfast consume 100% of juice. Whole grains, instead of refined ones and beans, should be consumed instead of meat.
The consumption of soy foods among cancer patients has been found as contradictory. Even if one consumes do it in moderation. Finally, hydrating the body with natural coolant water is very essential. It is known as the best solution to flush the toxins and medicines out from the body. Hence all these factors should be taken into consideration while following the diet plan among breast cancer patients.
