Canker sores are the small ulcer like protrusions that appear inside the mouth. These sores are extremely painful and sensitive to touch. The medical name of canker sores is Aphthous Stomatitis. There is no permanent cure for canker sores and they can re-appear even after complete treatment. The only way to prevent canker sores is to avoid the triggers that them to occur. These triggers are mainly foods and beverages. It is important to recognize the foods and drinks that cause canker sores in order to avoid the infection. Effective Home Remedies For Canker Sores
Aloe Vera Juice
Use juice of aloe vera as a rinse. Wash your mouth with aloe rinse after every meal. Doing this regularly will bring down the occurrence of canker sores.
Make a paste by mixing baking powder with a little water and apply this paste on the sores. You will get immediate relief from pain and inflammation. Baking powder is acidic in nature and can kill the bacteria that cause canker sores.
Do not apply baking soda directly on sores as this can turn them more sensitive. Instead mix a teaspoon of baking soda in 200ml of water and prepare a mouthwash.
Rinse your mouth with this baking soda mouthwash after every meal. This will neutralize the infection causing bacteria present in your mouth.
Hydrogen peroxide mouthwash is prepared by mixing one part hydrogen peroxide with three parts water. Rinse your mouth with this mouthwash twice a day; once after waking up and once before going to bed.
Regular use of the hydrogen peroxide mouthwash will limit the occurrence of canker sores.
Finely powder a medium sized chunk of alum. Take about half a teaspoon of alum powder and mix it with some water to form a thick paste. Apply the alum paste directly over your canker sores. Wash mouth with clean and plain water after 30 minutes. Do this treatment at least thrice a day to bring relief from sensitivity associated with canker sores.
Take 5-6 pods of garlic and peel them. Crush the garlic pods finely. Apply crushed garlic directly over the sores. Garlic has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that are very beneficial in the treatment of bacterial infection.
The treatment should be done thrice a day for four days to completely get rid of the infectious sores. It is recommended that garlic should be part of daily diet of people who tend to suffer from canker sores frequently.
Take a peeled onion and grate it. Squeeze the juice out of the grated onion. Mix one teaspoon onion juice with half teaspoon honey and apply the mixture over the sores. Leave for 20 minutes and then rinse mouth using a natural mouthwash. Repeat the treatment three times during the day to get relief from canker sores.
