Effects of Color
Colors have a lot of effect on our lives. In fact there is a science to the use of colors. Using of colors as a therapy is known as colorology. Colors evoke different moods and emotions in us and can help in bringing energy in our body. Colors can be divided into three categories- neutrals, warm and cool.
Neutrals are black, white, gray, beige and brown. These colors are made by mixing other colors. If worn correctly, these colors can have a very positive effect. For example: black suggests elegance, strength and power but can also give a feeling of outcast. Grey is associated with self reliance and self control. It acts as a shield from the outside world but too much of it can be depressing and make you look dull and old. However, if used with other bright colors it can look exquisite. White can help cleanse emotions; it brings peace, humility, cleanliness, simplicity and innocence. But over use of this color can bring a feeling of sterility and a hospital like atmosphere.
Warm colors stimulate our nervous system. Red, yellow, orange, gold are considered to be warm colors. Gold is the color of riches and extravagance. Yellow brings liveliness and happiness, red brings feeling of lust, is also a symbol of fire and heart. Orange is a stimulant of emotions and apatite. Extrovert people prefer warm hues. Warm colors can evoke emotions from simple optimism to strong violence, depending on how you use it.
Cool colors create a sense of calm and relaxation. Blue, green, pink and purple are considered to be cool colors. Cool colors make a person feel nurtured. Almost everyone likes some shade of blue. Blue is a good color for bedroom, It can help you sleep peacefully. However, too much of it can dampen the spirits and cause depression. On the other hand, the color green is reminiscent of spring. It also signifies growth, health and abundance. Green has both warming and cooling effect. By using different shades of green in your home or your diet you can bring harmony, stability and balance. Purple has a mystical and spiritual qualities.
