Effects of Sun Exposure on Skin
Sun is main source of vitamin D. in fact we all need to be exposed to the sun for healthy bones. All human beings derive the bones health by absorbing calcium form the sun. But the fact also remains that excess of exposure to the sun can be harmful to the skin and body.
These harmful sun rays can cause skin cancer and can suppress the immune system. The parents should take well care of their young kids while at the same time educate their growing kids about the importance of sun. They should educate them to take care of themselves in taking enough precautions while going out, so as to evade the damages to the skin and skin cancer. The UV rays are the most harmful rays that cause tanning, sun burns and other skin damages.
The sunlight is composed of 3 kinds of ultraviolet rays. They are the UVA, the UVB and the UVC.
The UVA rays are responsible for aging and wrinkling of the skin. They are primarily responsible for skin cancer. UVA rays penetrate the ozone and reach the earth. A tan due to UVB rays can cause cataracts, sun burns, skin cancer and can destroy the immune system of the body. While the UVC rays are the most harmful rays. They do not enter the earth’s atmosphere as they are blocked by the ozone.
It’s important to protect the skin from getting exposed to the UVA and the UVB rays. The ultraviolet rays are capable of reacting with the melanin. Melanin is defense system against the sun. The color of the skin is due to this melanin. People with fair complexions are likely to have more freckles then the dark skinned people. With the increase in activity of the melanin the skin becomes tanned. Thus with more skin exposure to the sun the more are the damages. Thus it is always recommended to use a sun block with appropriate SPF to protect the skin from the harmful UV rays and tan.
