Finding A Relationship That Works
Nobody in this world wants to be lonely. The need for appreciation and love is completely keyed into our systems and you will seldom meet someone who willingly professes to want to be alone.
Having a relationship doesn’t really mean that you will stop being lonely. Unfortunately, too many people are stuck in relationships that do more harm than good to them. Often people in relationships feel stifled as if they don’t have their own space or their own power to make decisions. While such relationships can be overwhelming, finding one that’s just right is a difficult job.
The reasons to feel overwhelmed by your relationship can be many. Maybe you are committed to your partner on the surface but on a more intimate level, you are emotionally cut off because you fear getting engulfed in something that you think you won’t be able to handle.
Making yourself emotionally available to your partner is the first step towards making your relationship work. If you have space issues, discuss them. Make a plan to have some alone time in the day. However, do not compromise on your time with your partner. Understand that in a relationship, you have to be fulfilled as an individual and as a couple.
Retreating into your own self can be detrimental for your relationship. If you partner is mature and understanding they will know that you need some time to think about certain things. If they support you during this period, they are likely to support you in the most difficult situations as well. Discuss your comfort levels and quirks with your partner. Also ask them about their so that you can set your boundaries and can establish your borders.
It is not possible to see a relationship from a distance and judge whether it will work or not. You have to get entangled and possibly hurt to really know how to work things out. If you keep on feeling scared of being emotionally entangled or hurt, you will not be able to enjoy what the relationship has to offer. Also it will become difficult for you to find a relationship that really works.
