First Aid for Certain Problems

What to do for a feeling of faintness or an actual faint:
The reason for this is usually a temporarily diminished supply of blood to the brain. In case of this feeling lye down with legs raised or sit and put your legs between your knees until you feel better. If you notice someone fainting, lay the person down on his back and raise his legs.

What to do if you see someone choking:
Don’t take choking lightly especially if the person is not able to breathe or speak, they need immediate attention. If the person can speak then call an ambulance, the person maybe having a heat attack but if he is not able to speak step behind him and lean his body forward. Hit hard between his shoulder blades four times. If the person has become unconscious then turn his body, his chest against your thighs and give four firm blows.

What to do and what not to do with a person with broken limbs:
Pain for more than a few minutes after a blow can indicate a broken bone. Don’t try to move the area of injury as it can cause further damage when moved. The broken bones can pierce and injure the internal organs. Try to immobilize the area with simple splints, slings or bindings. Keep the person in resting position till professional help arise. Try to keep the person warm, sheltered and assured. Bone fractures are followed quickly by swelling, so check the bindings every few minutes and loosen them if necessary.

How to treat burns from heat, fire or chemicals:
The burn caused by heat or chemical should be immersed in cold water immediately. But do not use ice water as it can shock the victim. Prompt soaking can reduce the effects of burning. Don’t try to remove the clothes or pull the cloth which has stuck due to burn. Just cut away loose portions even from the unburned areas as the swelling usually develops. Chemical burns should be washed for at least ten minutes before stopping to call for help. Remove the clothes on which the chemical has spilled and keep rinsing till the help arrives.
