Fish Oil Increases Risk of Cardiac Arrhythmias in Some Patients

Fish Oil was considered to be an essential in ones’ diet once upon a time but now some researchers have actually started questioning its benefits. Recent studies have shown some negative aspects of fish oil and it is also said to increase the chances of developing cardiac arrhythmia’s in certain patients.

Cardiac Arrhythmia can be said to be a difference or a variation in the hearts rhythm. This can vary from being extremely mild and can go on to become severely life-threatening. Over the past few years researchers have been conducting tests to find out the impact of the consumption of fish oils on the heart.

Fish oils are the fatty acids that are mostly found in fishes found in cold water or deep water.  Studies have shown that patients who suffer from heart diseases are likely to develop cardiac arrhythmia’s by regular intake of fish oils over a long period of time.

But there is a strong difference of opinion on this subject. At last count, there was and still is a school of thought that believes completely in the miraculous benefits of fish oils as regards heart patients and patients suffering from various other diseases.

Recent studies in the Journal of the American Medical Society have suggested that it is best for people with cardiac problems to stay away from fish oil as it increases the chances of cardiac arrhythmia. There has also been research done in many other parts of the world that are increasingly supporting this view.

However the studies are yet to come to a conclusion and the studies are expected to go on for quite sometime till the researchers reach some conclusive evidence. Till then it is best to keep the consumption of fish to moderate levels so that it does not have any kind of serious impact on the heart. Another good idea would be to check with your cardiac physician before you start or stop any supplements.
