Five Ways to Live Longer
A recent research showed that by some simple lifestyle changes you can add years to your life. You will be adding almost a decade in your life by these five changes, and they are- Quit smoking, be active, eat healthy, drink moderately, listen to your body.
Most important is- Listen to your body. It is said that if given the right conditions, the body can heal itself on its own. For example: if you have a leaky gut syndrome, your body will start craving for yogurt, cheese, bread etc. If you are having a deficiency of minerals your body will start craving for salt, potato chips etc. However, you need to realize that these cravings are your body’s way of telling you what nutrients you require. You must learn to listen to your body signals. It will let you know what it needs.
Quit smoking-Cigarette smoking is one of the main causes of pre mature death. One year after quitting smoking your coronary heart disease drops to half. You will also be saving yourself from many types of cancer.
Be active- One of the biggest problem today is lack of activity. Even moderate exercise like walking, gardening can make a difference. The more you move the healthier you will be. Try to use stairs instead of a lift. By adding exercise you can reduce the risk of heart problems and diabetes, reduce stress which is the main cause of all problems, improve memory in later age, maintain and build bones by weight bearing exercises and prevent fractures.
Balanced diet- Try to add all food groups in your diet. For example: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fiber etc. However, excess of anything is bad. For example, eating too much of salad can make you gassy. Add half a cup of it with every meal. Moreover, instead of eating three big meals in a day, eat small meals every two hours. Also, find more nutritious substitutes for your favorite foods. Add foods with different colors, texture and smell. Healthy diet means the food should be low stress and high in nutritional value.
Drink red wine- Cellular damage is a root cause of various forms of cancer and heart disease and red wine has the anti oxidants to protect against it. However, make sure you keep the intake to two glasses per day only.
Happy long life!
