Foods High In Vitamin D

Vitamin D is vital vitamin for your body but the bad news about Vitamin D is that your body can’t manufacture it. You have to depend totally upon external sources of Vitamin D.

Sunlight is one of the best sources of Vitamin D. According to health professionals even if you take 15 minutes sunlight daily, you get sufficient amount of Vitamin D. It is recommended that you should expose your body in the morning or in the evening for 15 to 20 minutes and avoid exposure of your skin in afternoon in sunlight.

Apart from sunlight there are some foods high in vitamin D; some of them are mentioned below. Button Mushrooms and shiitake are considered high sources of Vitamin D. It is assumed that since they grow in sunlight, and they adept at sucking sunlight they are highly rich in Vitamin D. But only those mushrooms are considered to be beneficial and good sources of Vitamin D which are dried into sunlight. Mushrooms which are dried artificially do not benefit.

Cod liver oil is another super food which contains vitamin D in high quantity. This oil also contains omega 3 fatty acids in high quantity which is too good for your health. Omega 3 fatty acids cures depression, mood swings and many mental problems. It also makes your bones strong. Even if you take one tablespoon oil of cod liver oil it would provide you enough Vitamin D which you need for one day.

Some fishes too are highly rich in vitamin D such as mackerel, sockeye salmon, herring, sardines, tuna etc. Herring is very high in Vitamin D and you should consume it regularly. Sockeye salmon is also very good source of Vitamin D. If you don’t get Vitamin D from any other sources then you should eat these fishes daily.

Apart from above mentioned fishes, soy milk also contains Vitamin D. Orange juice and fortified milk are also considered good source of Vitamin D. Eggs contain Vitamin D but not too much. However you can get 10% of your daily needs of Vitamin D from one egg.

If you want to remain healthy you must consume these foods to obtain sufficient amount of vitamin D or expose yourself into sunlight for 15 minutes daily.
