Friendship Turned Love
Falling in love is, no doubt, the coolest thing in the world. But the shock comes when you realize that it’s your best friend whom you have fallen in love with. You feel the need of moving on from love to friendship. But you are afraid to view the different aspects of the situation. You are scared and insecure. You feel that such a step will cost you your best friend.
Go slow!
A hasty proposal to your friend may scare or shock him/her into retreating or withdrawing the confidence he/she had in you. Go slow. Give him/her tangible hints. Make it apparent that you feel your friendship has the potential to develop into love.
Invite open conversations.
Initiate conversations loaded with hints at your feelings towards him/her. If he/she correctly interprets your second meanings and responds favorably to them then you can safely assume that he/she is also interested in proceeding forward with your relationship. You must not let your feelings make you embarrassed and get in the way of your free conversations. Note your friend’s reaction. If he/she seems uncomfortable, then you know that he/she is not yet ready for a transition into a deeper relationship. You must know where to stop.
Is he/she available?
If you are a friend to this person then logically you should be aware if he/she is currently in a relationship. If he/she is free then your way is clear and you are free to proceed. If he/she is in a messy relationship that you honestly feel he/she should get out of, then support him/her in the face of the problems. You can’t selfishly leave him/her in troubles. Be a good friend. In time you can slowly make him/her transcend the boundary of friendship and share a deeper bond with you.
Help him/her read the signs.
Misinterpretation can spoil even the most promising situation. Make sure your meaning is conveyed to him/her. Be forceful in your representations of the situation. Leave no scope for doubt. Be explicit. If you feel he/she is misreading the signs, correct their mistakes. Explain yourself. Clarity is more important than subtlety.
Go for it. A beautiful life waits!!
