Fruits as a means of haircare

Extensive research shows that a regular intake of fruits can substantially aid hair growth and protect it against damage. Fruits naturally contain vitamin c, minerals, and a number of bioflavonoid which enhance blood circulation to the hair follicles, assisting growth.

Fruits supply the body with vitamins a, b, c, d, e and k along with minerals such as magnesium, iron, potassium and zinc.

It is therefore essential to include adequate servings of fruits in ones daily diet as they are rich in essential hair-promoting nutrients.

Fruits and fruit extracts may also be used externally to treat damaged hair combat a number of common hair problems and to maintain healthy, lustrous hair.

Banana acts as an excellent hair conditioner when applied to the scalp. It also nourishes the hair from the roots.

Avocado pulp adds natural oil and moisture to the hair.

Papaya, known for its re-hydrating properties, is also used to extract oil from the seeds which in turn is used for hair treatment. The oil is found rich in omega 6&9 essential fatty acids and vitamin c.

Watermelon oil is easily absorbed by the skin and it absorbs excess sebum, adding luster and sheen to the hair. It also supplies the required daily application (RDA) of essential nutrients to the hair and skin.

Oils extracted from coconut, olives, castor and almond are effective in treating damaged hair. They add natural oil, moisture and volume to the hair. They yield best results when applied to the hair and left overnight, followed by a gentle wash with a mild shampoo and lukewarm water.

Amla (emblica officinalis) is a fruit rich in vitamin c, growing extensively throughout India. it is valued both for its vitamin c content as well as for the oil that is extracted from it. Amla is used in the treatment of numerous hair problems.

Stress, pollution, unplanned diet, excessive use of harsh chemical agents and heat in popular hair styling trends are some of the common factors that contribute largely to hair loss and related problems. To combat them effectively one must ensure sufficient intake of a variety of fruits, leafy vegetables, nuts and plenty of water in their regular food intake. This, coupled with adequate hours of rest can enhance beauty of both skin and hair.
