Gastric Bypass Diet
A patient with gastric bypass surgery also has dietary restrictions. In order to recover speedily the person has to follow strict diet regime. The diet that is prepared is designed keeping in mind the present condition of the stomach. It is in extremely frail condition. For good healing, overeating should be avoided.
After surgery the capacity of the stomach to hold the liquid reduces. Alteration in eating habits is important. The day to day requirements of vitamins and minerals have to be met. Hence carefully monitor the food that is being consumed.
Tips for gastric bypass diet:-
Protein is important. Hence increase its intake. It helps in faster healing and repairs the muscles and ensures growth. Calcium in form of calcium citrate is recommended.
Low fat food should be consumed. The food should be as such that gets easily assimilated and digested by the patient. Avoid fast foods.
The meats if taken should be baked or grilled or broiled. Eggs and egg white, legumes and beans in dry form can be taken. Avoid dairy and dairy products. Confectionaries, sugary food and condiments should be totally avoided.
Tea or coffee should be very light, nutritional drinks can be taken but avoid the carbonated ones. Soda, alcohol, fruit drinks should not be consumed. Soups with fats and creams are suggested. Broth can be taken.
Starches in form of cereals, mashed potatoes are the best. Avoid peanut butter. Vegetables juice and fibrous food are good. Avoid skipping any kinds of meals. Avoid self medication. Stay away from laxatives and diet pills.
The diet should be small and frequent. Chew the food properly for easy digestion. Hydrate the body with water. One can get back to normal diet in slow and steady manner.
