Generalized Anxiety Disorder Symptoms
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a kind of mental disorder. It can affect people of any age group and of any country in the world. There are various types of symptoms exhibited by the generalized anxiety disorder.
Some symptoms in children and adults may be same but some may differ to a great extent.
A child may keep worrying about his/her performance in school. He may worry every day whether he would reach school on time or not. In some cases, a normal child may also worry if he has to reach school on time and he may worry that he shouldn’t be late.
But children who are afflicted with GAD worry everyday. Such children also lack confidence and always try to be perfectionist. Some people with GAD constantly worry about some disastrous incidents such as lightening, flood, accident, earthquakes etc.
There can be two types of generalized anxiety disorder symptoms: Physical and Psychological.
Physical symptoms of GAD:
Sleep Problems – A patient of GAD is unable to sleep properly at night. He seems to be restless. Insomnia is a common symptom among GAD patients.
Fatigue - GAD patients get tired very soon. Fatigue is also a physical symptom of GAD.
Shortness of Breath – GAD patients also experience shortness of breath and their heartbeats may become abnormal. GAD patients are seen trembling and feeling nervous at many occasions.
Stomach Disorders – As generalized anxiety symptom, you can find stomach problems in its patients. They experience diarrhea or bowl problems.
Sweating - GAD patients sweat profusely prior to facing a large audience or prior to giving any speech, facing an interview. Though, to some extent it is natural in normal persons, GAD patients sweat abnormally.
Psychological symptoms of GAD:
Fear of Rejection – GAD patients lose confidence during performance of any act and they always fear of being rejected.
Lack of Concentration – GAD patients find it difficult to concentrate in class or any other occasion. It should not be misunderstood as an ADHD symptom.
Behavior - Generalized anxiety disorder patients get irritated soon and they behave abnormally.
Childhood abuse, upsetting experience in childhood, stress in grown up people and chronic illness may cause GAD. You should consult your doctor for its treatment. If you treat it timely you can make the life of the patient better and happier.
