Generalized Anxiety Disorder

There are various types of mental disorders. One of the mental disorders is the generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). GAD doesn’t give you any health problem directly, but without doubt it makes your life miserable, which indirectly affects your health too!

Do you constantly worry that something wrong may occur to you or to your loved ones? If your answer is yes, then there is the possibility that you are suffering from the generalized anxiety disorder.

A person suffering from GAD persistently worries about something, which is not obvious to others. To some extent, most people think about their family and their health, but patients suffering from generalized anxiety disorder all the time worries about their family, health, work etc, which make their life miserable and depressed.

They are unable to sleep well and eventually become victims of insomnia. Their health deteriorates gradually due to it.

Some people with GAD continuously worry about some catastrophic incidents such as lightening, flood, accident, earthquakes, dog bite etc. A person can develop generalized anxiety disorder at any stage, whether in childhood or adulthood.

There are various reasons behind generalized anxiety disorder. In childhood, if a child witnesses any disturbing events or undergoes child abuse he can develop GAD at later stage.

If people make fun of any child and mock at him due to any reason, he or she may fall victim of generalized anxiety disorder or any other mental disorder such as social anxiety disorder at any stage.

Adults develop GAD due to stress, chronic illness, break ups, financial problems, career insecurity etc. In some cases, gene too may be responsible for causing this disorder.

Insomnia, restlessness, muscle tension, fatigue, stomach disorders etc are some physical symptoms of GAD. Psychological symptoms of GAD include fear of being rejected, lack of concentration, irritation etc.

Children remain unaware of the fact that they could be suffering from some kind of mental disorders, but adults should recognize such symptoms and should try to find remedies and treatment to cure it.

There are different types of treatment for GAD. If it is left untreated for a long time, the patient might suffer from depression, suicidal attacks, headaches, teeth grinding etc.

To prevent your child from falling victim to GAD, you should not make fun of him if he/she fails to perform well in his/her class. Instead of mocking at them, you must inspire and guide them.
