Exercise is one of the best ways to keep your heart healthy. But people who are heart patients are afraid of exercising. Initially it was believed that people suffering from heart diseases should not do exercise; but doctors suggest that exercise benefits everybody including a heart patient. But heart patients need to do exercises with some precautions and care. Given below are some tips for heart patients who want to do exercise to improve their health.
You should go through stress test before beginning exercise. Whether you will face any problems as a result of doing exercise, stress test will determine it and let you know.
If you are a heart patient you should begin exercise by warming yourself. These are called warm up exercises. Do not start any exercise immediately and vigorously. It will harm you instead of benefiting.
Stretching could prove to be very beneficial for you. Before you start any exercise, stretch your arms and legs slowly. This will warm up your body and prepare the muscles and blood vessels to allow the blood to flow smoothly in your system.
Hamstring stretch, quadriceps stretch, calf stretch, groin stretch, overhead arm pull, behind back arm rise etc are good stretching exercises. Overhead reaching is very good exercise for heart patients.
You should avoid heavy weight lifting if you have any heart problems. Once you have completed your exercises you need to cool down. You shouldn’t stop exercise immediately. When you cool down your body gradually returns to the normal condition.
While doing any exercise if you feel any discomfort, you should not continue it. If you feel chest pain or dizziness or heartbeats getting abnormal or shortness of breath, you should stop exercising and take rest and consult your doctor immediately or before starting exercise in the next session.
People who have already suffered from heart failure should take precautions while doing exercise. It is recommended that they should do exercise after the approval of their doctors and under the supervision of health professionals.
Remember, you can prevent stroke and heart attack by doing exercise on a regular basis. But you have to do it with cautions if you are already a heart patient
