How Important is Freedom to Your Kid?
It is true that parents should stop prying on their kids once they are old enough to take care of themselves. Parents should leave their kids free and must permit them to spend time with kids of their age group; this will definitely make them more responsible. There is no big teacher than freedom. Even experts opine that teen age kids who are allowed to spend time with their friends and are permitted to go shopping lead more active and responsible life.
If the parents do not allow the kids to be their own, then it’s true something is lacking. Such kids who are entitled more freedom emerge into more responsible individuals in later run. Unobstructed socializing enables kids to bond strongly with their friends and also helps them in structuring networking skills. Freedom teaches the children to discover the world around them. They become more capable in making their own decisions and it also enhance their creative thinking. Their interpersonal skills, self esteem, self-reliance also boosts up. But that doesn’t mean that freedom should be unbridled. It could be dangerous.
The parents should take responsibility of their kids and must know what their kids are up to. They must be with them at times of emergency or at times of crisis. Do not make your kid feel left out when he or she needs you the most. Parents should encourage kids in making choices. Such kids who are given enough space learn to handle their requirements well. One cannot generalize freedom in quantitative manner. Trust should be mutual and regulations could be put in accordance to it.
It’s okay that your kids make mistakes. Mistakes do happen and such incidents are great learning opportunity. Every time protecting them will hamper their growth and they will not to learn to evolve in the outer world. By doing mistakes the child will learn between right and wrong. Instead of saying no better give your reason for it and tell your concern. Keep the communication open. Avoid being a dominating parent, be a friend to him/her.
